Mykhailo Retman

Head of Department, Agricultural Sciences (PhD), Senior Researcher

Scientist in the fields of agricultural sciences and food, agronomy, plant protection, ecology, and biotechnology. The main area of activity is research on the application of plant protection products through irrigation water and their combined use within integrated crop protection systems. Studies include changes in microbiocenoses under different moisture conditions, the impact of pesticides on ecosystems, and the biodegradation of plant protection products. Work also focuses on regulation and standardization of pesticide use under irrigation conditions, as well as ecological and biological assessment of the effects of agrochemicals and fertilizers on plants, soil, and aquatic ecosystems.

Main Areas of Scientific Activity

  • Conducting fundamental and applied research to develop scientific foundations for sustainable water resource management and land reclamation under climate change conditions;
  • Studying patterns of natural, socio-economic, and technological processes on reclaimed lands under climate change;
  • Investigating the effects of different irrigation methods on plant water exchange, physiological processes, crop yield, and biochemical composition of harvested products;
  • Studying nutrient regimes and soil properties (water-physical, chemical, and physicochemical), including laboratory diagnostics of soil hydrophysical characteristics;
  • Ecological and biological assessment of the effects of agrochemicals and fertilizers on plants, soil, and aquatic ecosystems;
  • Research on the application of plant protection products via irrigation water and their combined use in integrated crop protection systems;
  • Optimization of crop cultivation technologies under drip irrigation (fertigation and chemigation);
  • Scientific and technical cooperation with national and international research institutions.

Research Programs

The department conducts research under NAAS Program 4: “Sustainable Water Use, Water Security Formation, Development of Land Reclamation, and Efficient Use of Reclaimed Lands under Climate Change”

  • 04.02.00.11 F – Study of water and nutrient regime formation processes under combined irrigation methods and soil tillage on reclaimed lands (2021–2025), Reg. No. 0121U109246;
  • 04.02.00.18 P – Development of methodological principles and technical-technological aspects for implementing optimal irrigation regimes (2021–2023), Reg. No. 0121U109470.

Contract-Based Research Projects

  • Scientific substantiation and support of minimum and zero tillage technologies at SE “DG ‘Velyki Klyny’” (Contract No. 06.3-04-21);
  • Development of water-saving technologies for pulse drip irrigation of agricultural crops (Contract No. DZ/136-2022);
  • Field validation of product effectiveness for BASF LLC (Contract No. 3-20/2021).
